Bukowski Family Photo - 1959

This Bukowski family snapshot was taken August 1959. Siblings William F. Bukowski and Helen Tillie Bukowski pose for a photograph with William's grandson Norbert Bukowski. Helen recorded the names and the date on the back of the photograph that was included in one of her old albums.

William F. Bukowski and Helen Tillie Bukowski are the children of Polish immigrants Vincinety Frank Bukowski and Franciska Kwiatkowski. William was born September 14, 1894 in Poland and processed as an infant at Ellis Island with his parents on May 1, 1895. In early records William is recorded with the name Boleslaus.

William F. married his wife Celia about 1919 per the date recorded in the 1930 United States Federal Census. The couple had one son Norbert Bukowski born July 13, 1920. Norbert married Dorothy Swienski and the couple had several children including their son Norbert, photographed below. To learn more about Norbert and Dorothy visit the blog post The Norbert Bukowski Family which features several old photographs.

The Bukowski family had settled in Erie, Pennsylvania after being processed at Ellis Island. William F. eventually relocated to Buffalo, New York for work. His son Norbert also lived in Buffalo. William likely traveled to Erie, Pennsylvania to visit the Bukowski family. He may have traveled with his son or only his grandson. Helen often documented her photographs listing the location of the photograph in her notes if she had traveled out of town.
